Dedicated IPv4 vs IPv6 Proxies: Cost and Use Cases

Dedicated IPv4 vs IPv6 proxies compared on price per IP, compatibility and use cases, with rental prices by period and a quick test for your target site.

Dedicated IPv4 vs IPv6 proxies is mostly a question of price per address and whether your target accepts IPv6. At BuyProxy's October 2026 prices, a US IPv4 address costs about $1.58 for 30 days and a US IPv6 address costs about $0.20, roughly eight times less. IPv6 only works on sites that serve IPv6, so the cheaper option is the right one only when your target supports it. This guide compares the two on cost, compatibility and use cases, with the prices for every rental period.

The Short Answer

Choose dedicated IPv4 when you need the widest compatibility at a low price. Choose dedicated IPv6 when your targets support it and you need a lot of separate addresses cheaply. Both are datacenter IPs rented per address for a fixed period, so they share the same trade-off: fast and inexpensive, but easier for strict sites to detect than ISP or residential IPs. If your target blocks datacenter ranges, neither will help, and you should look at static ISP proxies instead.

What Each Product Is

Dedicated IPv4 proxies are individual datacenter IPv4 addresses reserved for you for the rental period, available from one IP upward. IPv4 is the older and still universal address format, so every website can be reached over it.

Dedicated IPv6 proxies are individual IPv6 addresses, rented the same way but with a minimum order of 10 IPs. IPv6 has vastly more addresses available, which is why they cost so little, but a site must support IPv6 for the proxy to reach it. For a deeper explanation of the format itself, read what an IPv6 proxy is.

Both are separate from BuyProxy's pay-per-GB datacenter and IPv6 products, which bill by bandwidth from a shared pool. The dedicated versions give you specific addresses for a period.

Price Comparison by Rental Period

Prices below are for US addresses as of October 2026. The IPv6 column is the total for the minimum order of 10 IPs, with the per-IP figure in brackets.

Rental periodIPv4, price per IPIPv6, price for 10 IPs (per IP)
1 week$1.34$1.99 ($0.20)
2 weeks$1.42$1.99 ($0.20)
1 month$1.58$1.99 ($0.20)
3 months$4.74$3.59 ($0.36)
6 months$9.48$7.17 ($0.72)
12 months$18.96$14.33 ($1.43)

For a month, 100 addresses cost about $158 on IPv4 and about $19.90 on IPv6. Longer terms behave differently on the two. IPv4 is priced at close to a flat monthly rate, so renting longer saves almost nothing. IPv6 gets cheaper per month the longer you rent: 10 IPs cost $1.99 for one month but $14.33 for twelve, about $1.19 a month. If you are sure you will keep the addresses, a longer IPv6 term is worth it. If you are still testing, rent by the month.

Remember BuyProxy's $5 minimum order. For a one-month rental in the US that works out to at least 4 IPv4 addresses (about $6.32) or 26 IPv6 addresses (about $5.18). The dashboard sets that default for you.

Compatibility: The Real Deciding Factor

An IPv6 proxy can only reach sites that publish an IPv6 address. Many large platforms do. Plenty of smaller sites and some internal services do not, and for those the request simply fails. Before you buy, check your target:

# Does the site publish an IPv6 (AAAA) record?
dig AAAA example.com +short

# Can you actually reach it over IPv6?
curl -6 -I https://example.com

If dig returns nothing, or curl -6 fails, the site is IPv4-only and an IPv6 proxy cannot reach it. The longer version of this check is in how to buy IPv6 proxies. IPv4 has no such restriction.

Use Cases for Each

Things That Can Trip You Up

  • IPv6 addresses from one range can be treated as one visitor. Some sites rate limit a whole block of IPv6 addresses together, so having many addresses does not always mean many independent identities. Test against your target rather than assuming.
  • Your tool must support IPv6. Check that your scraper, browser or antidetect tool can connect over IPv6 before you buy.
  • Datacenter reputation still applies. Both products are datacenter IPs. They are fast and cheap, and they are the first thing strict anti-bot systems flag. Residential vs datacenter proxies explains when that matters.
  • Per-IP rental is not per-GB billing. Traffic is not metered per gigabyte on a rented address, so heavy transfer does not raise your bill. Whether that suits you is the question in per-IP vs per-GB proxy pricing.

A Simple Buying Process

  1. Check whether your target supports IPv6 with the commands above.
  2. If it does, order a small IPv6 batch for one month, and if it does not, order a few IPv4 addresses.
  3. Test with your real tool, measuring success rate and speed as in our testing guide.
  4. Scale up once the success rate is acceptable. Rent by the month until you are sure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is IPv6 or IPv4 better for proxies?
Neither is better in general. IPv4 works on every site, while IPv6 is far cheaper per address but only reaches sites that support it. Choose based on your target.

Q: How much does a dedicated IPv4 proxy cost?
On BuyProxy a US dedicated IPv4 address costs about $1.58 for 30 days as of October 2026, with prices varying by country and period.

Q: Why is IPv6 so much cheaper?
There are vastly more IPv6 addresses available than IPv4 addresses, so each one costs less to supply. The cost advantage comes with the compatibility limit.

Q: What is the minimum order for dedicated IPv6?
10 IPs per order, and every BuyProxy order has a $5 minimum, so a one-month US order starts at about 26 addresses.

Q: Will these work on sites that block datacenter IPs?
Not reliably. Both are datacenter addresses, and sites that block hosting ranges will block them. Use static ISP, residential or mobile proxies for those targets.

Summary

Dedicated IPv4 costs about $1.58 per address per month and works everywhere, while dedicated IPv6 costs about $0.20 per address with a 10-IP minimum and works only on IPv6-ready sites. Check your target with dig AAAA and curl -6, buy a small batch for a month, and test before you scale.
